I decided to bring the camera along to take a few pictures. I had to use the 18-135 lens because my long 100-400 would not be allowed. I think I took over 350 shots and these are probably the best of the bunch. They aren't good enough for Sport Illustrated, but I think they are ok. Let me know if you like them or not.
Thanks again, Brian and Stephanie! You guys are the best!

A new flag needed to be designed to represent both Congress and the fledgling nation, (initially called the United Colonies). A banner needed to be distinct from the British Red Ensign flown from civilian and merchant vessels. The Grand Union flag was first hoisted on the colonial warship, Alfred, in the harbor on the western shore of the Delaware River at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 3, 1775. The Grand Union Flag was a combination of the British King's Colors, the Union Jack, and 13 horizontal stripes alternating red and white to represent the original 13 colonies.
It is not known when, or by whom the Grand Union flag was designed or created. Some of the other names this historic flag gathered are the Continental Colors, the Congress Flag, the Cambridge Flag, and the First Navy Ensign.
It is most likely the Grand Union was the flag raised at Cambridge, January 2nd, 1776 by General Washington and given a salute of 13 guns.
The most recent moniker, the Grand Union Flag, was applied during the 19th century during the Reconstruction era by George Henry Preble in his 1872 History of the American Flag.
I took this at the Field of Honor in Georgetown, TX back in 2017.

The photo below is from a trip we took to Washington DC 11 years ago. We took a tour of Arlington National Memorial Cemetery and this marker stood out for obvious reasons. From https://www.cia.gov/legacy/museum/artifact/william-j-donovans-medal-of-honor/:
General Donovan was the most highly decorated American officer of World War I. He received our nation’s top four medals, including this Medal of Honor for action in France in 1918. Donovan, who was a lieutenant colonel at the time, stood in front of his men with his rank showing and shouted, “Men – If they can’t hit me, they can’t hit you!” With that, Donovan led his men to take the German position. He was eventually wounded in the leg but refused to be evacuated from the battlefield until his men and their position were secure.

Here's more info about the courthouse from Wikipedia (so it must be true. ;-)).
The Caldwell County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located in Lockhart, Texas, United States.[2][3] The courthouse was built in 1894 to replace the existing courthouse, which was too small for the growing county. The courthouse was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1976 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property of the Caldwell County Courthouse Historic District on January 3, 1978.[4]
The courthouse was built in the Second Empire architectural style, with the design often attributed to Alfred Giles; however, recent research indicates the building was designed by Henry E.M. Guidon, who eventually became partners with Giles.[5] The courthouse is nearly identical to the courthouse in Goliad County, Texas, as it was built from the same Guidon plans.
The exterior has been featured in the films What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) and Waiting for Guffman (1996).

Here is more info on the Skylab trainer from Space Center Houston:
America’s first space station was huge. It was so big that the actual trainer used by astronauts to prepare for life aboard Skylab couldn’t be brought into Space Center Houston. Space Center Houston had to be built around the trainer.
The actual Skylab training module lives in Starship Gallery. Created out of the final stage of a Saturn V rocket, this habitable spacecraft was designed to develop methods of living and working in space for long periods.
It also was equipped with solar telescopes and served as a laboratory to study how the human body adapts to long duration exposure to a micro-gravity environment. Three different crews spent a total of 171 days on board, conducting a wide array of research.
The sign in the bottom left of the image says:
The large white ring that runs along the interior wall of Skylab is made up from a series of storage lockers for items ranging from cotton swabs to urine bags. Some crew members were able to run the length of these lockers as seen in the video to the left. The orbital workshops interior volume was 9,550 cubic feet (270 cubic meters).

We here at Evan Gearing Photography are offering a new product for sale; phone cases! They are an excellent way of protecting your phone as well as showing off a bit of your personality! I think they are well made and the print quality is outstanding! I'm using one myself with my trick roper shot and I am quite happy with it! There are different kinds of cases; there are the traditional kind that cover the phone except for the screen (tough case) and then the kind that have a flap that covers the screen as well (folio case). The cases are just for Samsung and Apple phones. Go to this post for a couple of examples.
I've curated some of the photos on my site that I think would work great for phone cases into a collection that you can see if you click here. I personally think the portrait orientation of a photo goes best with these cases, but the landscape orientation works as well. It mainly comes down to preference. Also, any photo on my site will work if you don't see any in my phone case collection that strikes you. If you find a photo that you like, click on Visit Shop, click on Photo Gifts and then on the bottom left under TYPE, click on Phone Cases.
Use the code PHONECASE2019 for 30% off everything for all of April! The code is good for everything, not just the phone cases, so act now!
Lucent
Today's photo is another from Chicago. This one is from the ground floor of the Hancock building. This chandelier over the reflecting pool is a piece of art called "Lucent" and is supposed to represent different stars and constellations that can be seen from Earth's northern hemisphere. Here is more about Lucent from https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/lucent:
Lucent, the mesmerizing sculpture hanging in the lobby of Chicago’s John Hancock Building, certainly lives up to its name. The title is derived from the Latin word “lucere,” meaning “to shine,” and the artwork’s 3,115 lights depict a scale map of the stars that shine in the night sky.
The 13-foot artwork contains thousands of glass bulbs, all fed light through blue illuminating fiber-optic lines. The sculpture, created by English artist Wolfgang Buttress with the help of astrophysicist Dr. Daniel Bayliss, represents a 3D map of all the stars in the Northern Hemisphere that are able visible with the naked eye.
All of the piece’s glass bulbs were hand blown by artists at a local glass studio. Each one of the more than 3,000 bulbs is amplified even more against a mirrored ceiling above and a reflecting pool below. The end result is a piece that seems to go on forever, light looping from sky to ground over and over again.
The cosmic-inspired sculpture, Buttress told Chicago Magazine, aims to expresses “the idea of looking up and sensing wonder.”
This is another portrait-oriented photo that would be great on a phone case! I hope you enjoy the photo and thanks for dropping by.

Here is a little more info on the bridge from Austin Tenant Advisors:
It’s more commonly known as the 360 bridge however was named after Percy Pennybacker Jr who was a pioneer in welded structure technology and designed bridges for the Texas Hwy Department in the early 1900s.
The Pennybacker Bridge was started in 1979 and completed in 1982. To help it blend in with the surrounding area it was designed with a weathered rust finish. Made of 600 short tons of steel produced in Japan and 3,400 short tons of concrete the Pennybacker Bridge cost $10M to design and construct.
The arched design was created to avoid having support columns because Lake Austin is very popular with water skiers, wake boarders, and boaters.

Gorrono is the remnant of a long time past sheep ranch that now operates as a restaurant during ski season and wedding destination year round. The menu consists of traditional ski resort fare, BBQ, Chili, Burgers, and salads served cafeteria style. Unbuckle your boots and sit inside by the roaring fire, or take your tray outside when weather permits. Picnic tables line multiple decks and there are plastic chairs set on the snow decks if you want to relax and listen to local musicians belt out cover tunes and the occasional original song. Gorrono Ranch is open during the ski season.
Local Note - On warm days in early spring, get to Gorrono early to snag a chair on the snow deck.

During the San Juan Mountain gold rush, the smell of worn leather and the sounds of hard labor filled the air of Telluride. As precious metals were unearthed, more prospectors and profiteers moved to the area. The growing mining town of Telluride needed boarding for its passers-by and thus the Sheridan Hotel was constructed in 1891.
Destroyed by fire in 1894, the New Sheridan was built, this time in brick, in 1895. As decades passed and Telluride’s riches changed from gold to powdery snow, the New Sheridan Hotel evolved as well. Recently renovated with 26 handsome rooms, the New Sheridan is Telluride’s newest oldest hotel.
Home to the town’s oldest bar, the Historic New Sheridan Bar, a world-renowned restaurant, the Chop House. The New Sheridan has raised impeccable quality and service to a new level. Offering rich tradition paired with historic ambience, we invite you to discover the New Sheridan.
This is the only historic Telluride hotel and one of the few of Colorado’s historic hotels dating from the mining days.

Comments: | The tiny mountaineers take in a breathtaking view that is, in fact, a flat, generalized representation of grandeur. Removed from the painted wilderness by the tangible space that we as viewers also occupy, these meticulously rendered sculptural figures are our scouts, our stand-ins. Rostovsky has countered the sublime meditations of nineteenth-century Romanticism with the artifice of Internet-derived photographs, model replicas, and a hyper-realistic attention to expedition details. He comments on our inability today to experience and comprehend the natural world without some form of mediation—and perhaps the inability of art, painting in particular, to any longer support utopian ideals." |

Whereas the 11th of November 1918, marked the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in human annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful relations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed, and
Whereas it is fitting that the recurring anniversary of this date should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations; and

Hamilton Pool is a swimming hole west of Austin, TX by about 30 miles or so. From what I gather, it was an underground lake or river in which the roof of the cave that it was in fell in and left it looking like so. Pretty cool place I must say.
This shot made it as an Editor's Pick on the HDRSpotting website. It's also pretty popular there as it's hovering around #9 or #10 overall. HDRSpotting is currently having a contest in November for the most popular HDR. If you win, you get $100. Check it out if you have time. There are some great HDRs there and you can see this Hamilton Pool shot on HDRSpotting here.
Here in Georgetown, TX, we have a new bar/restaurant that just opened called "Hardtails". It's built and owned by the same people who run "Hog Alley" which is a Harley Davidson parts and service center, but not affiliated with Harley. The restaurant is a nice place and they have this HUGE ceiling fan that I heard about and that you can see in the picture. It looks like some sort of giant aircraft propeller. I suppose most ceiling fans do, but this one just has that look like it belongs on a C-130 or something similar. At least I thought it was cool.
It was kind of hard to get this shot because the manager was a little scared that the competition would come in and take shots of his restaurant, so they were kind of leery letting me setup my tripod for some HDRs. They let me take a couple of quick handhelds and this is what I ended up with. It's a single raw that I tried to give the old HDR treatment to. It could've been better I suppose had I been able to do the whole tripod thing, but I wasn't gonna argue too much. Maybe someday I'll be able to go back and they'll be a little more accepting of the idea.
